Picture Book Strategies with Alexis Orgera

In this workshop, Alexis will identify some of the missteps she often sees in picture book manuscripts—from forced rhyme to flat characters—and outline various possibilities and strategies that make a story sing. You’ll leave this class with some actionable strategies for everything from developing a story to revising drafts.

Alexis Orgera is the co-founder and publisher, with Chad Reynolds, of Penny Candy Books—an award-winning picture book press focusing on diversity and big conversations—often through poetry—and serves as the press’s director of editorial and production. She is also a freelance editor and editorial consultant. She is the author of two books of poetry for grown people and a forthcoming memoir.

Five Ways of Looking at Children's Publishing is a series of five workshops on Writing and Publishing for children. Each workshop is presented by a successful children's author.
