Revenge of the Wretched Open Mic

A poem isn’t always a bunch of pretty words and phrases arranged neatly onto a page. It doesn’t have to
obey the rules of a genre, culture, or convention (especially when the rules, themselves, demand to be
broken). While many poems strive to entertain or to be nothing more than craftworks sold on the market
(like fancy decorations for an office or millionaire’s living room), other poems try to do much more; they
try to communicate what’s real. They try to speak the unspeakable–to express the hidden or suppressed
truths of our lives with a raw and (sometimes) RADICAL honesty–the kind of honesty needed to change
lives and perspectives; the kind of honesty that’s needed to overthrow the lies of the world. On that note:
we invite you to Scuppernongs on November 17th to participate in Revenge of the Wretched Poetry
open mic.
