Songwriters @ Scup: Lane, Jay & Orr

Join us for another great afternoon of original music in the cozy environs of Scuppernong Books.

Kim Lane's songwriting and poetry carries the mixed sensibilities of her Midwestern roots, and the well-honed stories of her North Carolina home. A world-touring parent, poet, educator, runner, and event host, her most recent poetry collection is The Marathon Years: Milepost Poems.

Acisse Jay (äkēsā jā), born Jessica Michelle Hall, is a rock/blues singer-songwriter from Norfolk, VA. Influenced early on by the melodic prowess of Whitney Houston, she got started in her music career by learning to play piano, clarinet, tenor saxophone, and singing in her Baptist-church family choir. In 2012, she relocated to Raleigh, NC and decided to pick up the guitar. To the trained ear, Acisse Jay’s music might evoke some of the best blues, rock, and soul musicians of our time including Brittany Howard, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Otis Redding, Whitney Houston, Etta James , B.B. King , Bobby "Blue" Bland , and Mavis Staples, to name a few.

As a youngster, many, many years ago, Scott Orr aspired to be a songwriter, but life got in the way. Life, however, got a kick in the pants in 2015 when Scott was introduced to some other songwriters who met weekly, and the fire was rekindled. Since then Scott has been writing songs in abundance, and occasionally comes up with one worth sharing. Sharing them is what he wants to do now, and Songwriters@Scup provides him that opportunity.
